Audrey Butler
Violinist / Pianist / Teacher
About
I hold a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Piano from the University of Georgia (May 2020), where my primary professors were Shakhida Azimkhodzhaeva (violin) and Liza Stepanova (piano). I also studied intensively with other UGA faculty members including David Fung, Levon Ambartsumian, and Michael Heald. After graduation, I continued lessons with violinist Itamar Zorman. I have also participated in coachings and master classes with various artists including Peter Frankl, Soovin Kim, Shannon Thomas, Jeffrey Flaniken, David Starkweather, Benjamin Sung, and members of the Jupiter String Quartet.
Since 2016, I have been teaching private music lessons. During these years, I have learned as much as I have taught and have had many exciting moments with my students. My experience ranges from starting 4-year-olds as beginners to teaching advanced high school and even post-college students, and I enjoy working with all ages and levels. One of my favorite things about being a teacher is that I get to be a part of my students’ lives – I love to help and watch them grow, and to open their eyes to new things and new ways of looking at the world through studying music. It is a true privilege to be a part of each student’s musical journey.
In addition to running my own private studio, my teaching experience encompasses serving on the faculty of other music schools and studios, where I have had the opportunity to collaborate with other teachers and participate in joint student recitals. I joined the music faculty of the University of Georgia's Community School as a violin and piano teacher in 2017, where I maintained a full and active studio until this past August (2024) when I married my husband and moved to Greenville, SC. From 2021 to 2023 I was also on the faculty of Stuever Studios in Monroe, GA. I am currently continuing my own musical training and education by pursuing Suzuki certification under the instruction of Kristin Jutras (I am currently Suzuki certified through Book One), as well as collaborating with various musicians for recording and performance projects. One of my recent projects was a collaboration with pianist/composer Sonny Yoo, who wrote a violin sonata for me that we are working on recording together (Violin Sonata in D-flat Major). I also recently collaborated with pianist Maggie Blount and cellist Kate Carroll on a trio concert in Griffin, GA. In addition to teaching and collaboration, I also perform at a variety of weddings and events (click here for more information about weddings). I am an active member at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Buford, where I serve on the music ministry team.
I moved from Jackson County, GA (near Athens) this past August to Greenville when I married my husband. We are enjoying getting to know the area and love Greenville so far! I look forward to becoming an active part of the music community here, while at the same time traveling once a week to maintain a portion of my studio in Georgia. In my spare time, I love baking, hiking, reading, pursuing homesteading skills, spending time with my Australian shepherd, gardening, crochet and embroidery projects, and being with family and friends.
